El Ghazi is a Blue, Everton Loan Deal Confirmed

Everton have confirmed the signing of Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa on a loan deal until the end of the 2021/22 season.

El Ghazi becomes the club's third arrival of the January transfer window, following the captures of Vitalii Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson on permanent deals.

Villa had wanted to sell the winger for £15m but Everton were only interested in a loan, having been searching for more options out wide in the last few weeks.

El Ghazi will wear the number 34 shirt at Everton and is looking forward to his first taste of action.

“I’m really excited. Everton is a big club, I cannot wait to get started,” El Ghazi told EvertonTV.

“I want to show my quality to my team-mates, to the club and, of course, the fans. I want to put a smile on their faces. I’m ready and willing to work hard for it and for all of us to work together."

The loan deal for El Ghazi is believed to include an option - but no obligation - to buy at the end of his spell.

Meanwhile, Lucas Digne has completed his permanent switch in the opposite direction, leaving Goodison Park in a £25m move after three-and-a-half years with the club to Aston Villa.

El Ghazi initially impressed in a loan switch at Aston Villa throughout the 2018/19 campaign before his transfer from Lille was made permanent the following summer.

The 26 years Dutchman scored an impressive ten goals in 28 Premier League appearances for Dean Smith's side last term in what was his best season since joining the club.

However, since the arrival of Steven Gerrard with the Midlands club, his opportunities have become more fleeting.

The winger is likely to be in competition with the likes of Demarai Gray, Anthony Gordon and Andros Townsend on an initial basis after completing his switch to Goodison Park.

El Ghazi will be registered in time to potentially take part in his first Everton match on Saturday as Rafa Benitez's side travel to face Norwich City.
